Local Politicians at the Heart of the CIVITAS Initiative
Local Politicians play a key role in the implementation of sustainable transport strategies. The Policy Advisory Committee (PAC) of the CIVITAS Initiative provides local politicians with a platform to discuss the challenges resulting from this task. It is the political steering group of the CIVITAS Initiative.
The main outputs from the PAC are short, policy-styled notes, which highlight pros and cons, establish priorities and stress the policy relevance of the CIVITAS goals and achievements. In 2004, the PAC furthermore initiated the realisation of a Clean Vehicles Inventory by CIVITAS cities in view of a possible Joint Procurement Scheme. With a new group of CIVITAS cities starting ambitious projects in 2005, the PAC took the opportunity to evaluate its operations so far and to redefine its institutional and operational rules.
